10 Most Expensive TV Shows Of All Time

6. The Get Down - $11 Million Per Episode

Band Of Brothers
Netflix

The Get Down told the story of fictional artist MC Books growing up in the Bronx in the 70s. Through Books' and his friends' eyes, the show explored the rise of Hip Hop and Disco. The show starred Justice Smith as the lead role and was Baz Luhrmann's foray into streaming television.

The show had a budget of $11 million per episode. This was due in part to the large sets that were built, recreating The Bronx of the 1970s but also due to the large amount of licenced music used on the show. There was a great deal of R&B, Disco and Hip Hop that was used in the musical show, and the cost of these tracks drove production costs up. This alongside stars like Jaden Smith and fresh off of Hamilton Daveed Diggs made for an expensive series that sought to bring an era of Music to lif on the small screen.,

While the show received positive reviews, holding a certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it did not achieve the commercial success that other Netflix originals like Stranger Things had seen. This, added with its high budget meant that the series was cancelled after only 1 season.
