10 Most Gratifying Star Trek Deaths

3. The Obsidian Order/Tal Shiar Strike Force

Years before the Dominion War, a combined strike force of Cardassian and Romulan warships is sent to preemptively attack the Changelings. They launch an assault on a Gamma Quadrant planet suspected to be the Changelings’ homeworld, and boy are they wrong.

They have been misled by a Changeling infiltrator, and the slaughter brought about by their hubris is utterly fascinating.

The strike fleet fires torpedoes at the planet’s surface, seemingly obliterating it, but sensors indicate that the lifeform readings are unchanged. The fleet’s commanders look about, totally flabbergasted, as over a hundred Jem’Hadar ships roar out of the nearby Omarion Nebula and proceed to cut the fleet to shreds.

There is a moral conflict here, though, for although the strike force is trying to prevent a Dominion invasion of the Alpha Quadrant, its goal is genocide. But then, the Dominion later proves to be a-okay with genocide itself. There are no heroes here, only shades of evil.

Still, Cardassians and Romulans racing toward their own arrogant doom? Couldn’t have happened to better men.
