10 Most Gratifying Star Trek Deaths
2. Holodeck Nazis
Hirogen hunter have hijacked Voyager and are forcing the crew into endless holodeck simulations to sate their desire to track and kill prey. One simulation is Paris during World War II, full of resistance fighters and Nazi forces, and another has Klingon clans clashing on a distant planet.
Captain Janeway and Seven of Nine manage to release themselves from Hirogen control. Attempting to disable the holodeck system, they blast a breach between the simulations. Neelix and the Doctor later persuade the Klingons to cross over and take on the Germans in Paris.
Klingons soon rush through the streets of Paris, bat’leths held high, and cut down the Nazis without the slightest hint of pity. Speaking for all viewers, the Doctor cheers them on, shouting, “Qapla’, gentlemen – Qapla’!” The Hirogen are also fought to a standstill, and the crew is released from the bloodbath.
Of course, almost everyone involved in the glorious massacre is a hologram, but the image never fails to inspire hearty cheers and remains one of the most outlandish moments in all of Star Trek.
