It goes without saying that loss, as hard as it is, is a part of life. Most of us have or will loose someone at some point in our lives. But how many of us can say we have had to willingly sacrifice someone we cared about so deeply, for the good of everyone else?

Buffy has. After Angel lost his soul and turned to Angelus, we came to realization that Buffy would eventually have to kill him. It all came down to him opening the mouth of the demon Acathla to swallow the World in the two part season finale. In classic Whedon fashion, only Angelus’ death would stop it. This wasn’t even the hard part. At the very last minute, Willow was able to restore Angels soul, but it was too late. Realizing what her best friend had done, Buffy still had the hard choice to make. She chose to save the world.

Seeing the pain in her eyes as she gave her first true love one last kiss before plunging the sword into his chest, we felt her heartbreak. She had already been through so much at this point and at only 18 years old, it was too much for a woman her age to handle. Sarah McLachlan’s stunning ‘Full Of Grace’ was the perfect music to reflect the pain she was feeling as she packed her bags and left Sunnydale. She simply couldn’t handle anymore, and that is something most of us have experienced.
