10 Most Important Modern LGBT+ TV Characters

3. Darryl Whitefeather - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has its ups and downs, plotwise, and like any show so reliant on comedy songs has a big range of hits and misses, but it’s arguably the most progressive on TV.

With a huge cast of POC and LGBT+ characters, not to mention its stark depiction of dating, mental health and deconstruction of romcom tropes, its recent series finale leaves a big hole to fill.

Several of the characters could be here, with Valencia and Maya also identifying as bisexual and White Josh being gay. However, of those, Darryl Whitefeather has probably the most important story.

A middle aged small town lawyer, Darryl has been married for years and never particularly considered his sexuality. However, once he divorces, he realises that he’s actually been bisexual this whole time, but as he’d never cheat on his wife, he’s never put the pieces together.

Darryl’s story shows him maintaining a healthy relationship with his ex wife and daughter through this, eventually finding love with a man.

After a disagreement about having kids, this relationship too ends, but again he maintains a healthy friendship with his ex.

His ‘I’m Getting Bi’ song is one of the best non-Rebecca tunes the show ever did too.
