10 Most Inappropriate Moments In Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
1. Oo-mox For Fun And Profit
Deep Space Nine took tremendous pleasure in spotlighting the more hedonistic side of our favourite characters. Instead of a subdued drink at Ten Forward, audiences were treated to wild nights at Quark's, where the Dabo table and holosuites beckoned any weary officer. Yet far from being a stoic bartender, Quark was no stranger to indulgence himself, given his revolting demand that his staff cater to his every sexual need. Somebody shut that place down.
Part of Quark's fondness for exploiting his staff included oo-mox, the sexual stimulation of Ferengi earlobes through massage. Discussing a sexual act is one thing, but Deep Space Nine regularly showed oo-mox on full display, complete with near-orgasmic reactions from Quark and other Ferengi. Usually Quark, though. That guy just couldn't get enough oo-mox. And the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition backed him up, warning readers to "Beware the man who doesn't make time for oo-mox."
Of course, one can have too much of a good thing, even oo-mox. "Bar Association", from the show's fourth season, includes Rom implying that he got sick from too much oo-mox by himself. Well, at least he didn't go blind.
In another dubious moment from the same season, Nog tricks a nurse into performing oo-mox on him in "Little Green Men". More sexual deception? When will this show finally learn? Whatever, let's not get into this right now.
Any way you look at it, the decision to graphically depict a sexual act sent Deep Space Nine into territory that few Star Trek series dared to tread. It may be alien, but oo-mox easily ranks as the show's most inappropriate moment.
