When Rich first appears in season one, he just seems to be the nicest and best guy in the room, much to Jeff's chagrin. A pottery master who always has a smile on his face, Rich is adored by the women around him (hence Jeff's jealous attitude toward him) and drives Jeff to try and uncover bad things about him. Though Jeff finds nothing, fans have long speculated that Rich is too good to be true.

Well, according to Reddit user Spingles, fast-forwarding to Season 5 when Jonathan 'Mike' Banks joined the cast as Buzz Hickey, Hickey reveals that he was once a cop who spent time trying to capture a known serial killer called The Black-River Ripper. However, Hickey was unsuccessful in his search and later left the force.

This becomes relevant to Rich when you remember that he and Annie were once picking fingers out of a river when they were together, much to Annie's surprise.

The theory put forward says that Rich was The Black-River Ripper and the fingers that he and Annie were picking out of the river were the severed fingers of his victims. Much like George Harvey in The Lovely Bones, Rich was polite and un-threatening to anybody he met... until he killed them.

It seems as good a theory as any on this list when looking at the circumstantial evidence, and should a movie ever come along it could explore Rich's perceived darkness in greater detail. The study group having to try and catch Rich could be the meta-Bone Collector parody that they need.
