10 Most Messed Up Steven Universe Moments

4. Steven Shatters Jasper

Steven Universe Future is the limited series/epilogue series to Steven Universe.

It came about after Rebecca Sugar was informed the original series, Steven Universe, would be cancelled at the end of the fifth season. After talking Cartoon Network into extending the fifth season's episode to 32 in order to finish the story, Sugar was also able to talk the network into a film, Steven Universe: The Movie. Cartoon Network then greenlit an additional 20 episodes to take place following the plot of the movie.

Taking place 2 years after the final episode of the original series, Steven Universe Future sees Steven, now 16 years old, finds himself having trouble finding his purpose. With the Diamond Authority no longer a threat to earth and the last loose ends tying up smoothly, he now has to look inward and decide what his future holds.

This includes struggling with formations of new powers he can't control. Unable to ask for the help he desperately needs, Steven tries to keep everything hidden from his friends and family. Seeking refuge away from the concerns of those he loves, Steven runs to Jasper living in the woods.

Jasper blames Steven's troubles on his friends, claiming they're the reason he holds back. She then attempts to provoke him into a fight, but is unable until Steven's anger gets the best of him. Feeling relief at releasing his power using his rage, Steven asks Jasper to train him.

After a couple days, Steven tells Jasper he's ready for the rematch she wanted. They fight, Steven overpowering Jasper and dealing a deadly attack. The show then cuts to Steven running home and into the bathroom. He reveals he shattered Jasper, desperately attempting to fix her using healing liquids he has from the Diamonds and his own healing tears.

Steven's entire character was one who always tried to help others. Seeing him give into darker thoughts and go through with shattering a Gem was startling to see. And the intense regret and shame he felt after the deed was heartbreaking to see.
