2. The Prophets

As nonlinear beings that live outside of time and experience every moment simultaneously, it could be said that the Prophets (as well as their sinister counterparts, the Pah-Wraiths) have always existed.

The home of the Prophets, a unique stable wormhole, was located in the Bajoran system. They watched over the Bajoran people as their children and helped them survive through all of their hardship. In ancient times (tens of thousands of years ago), they delivered to the Bajorans nine orbs, all with different abilities (as well as a tenth orb, The Orb Of The Emissary, which was discovered much later in the 24th century). These orbs could induce visions, reveal prophecies, or even allow for time travel.

The Prophets have godlike powers, and to the Bajorans they are gods. They destroyed a massive Dominion fleet with ease, but perhaps their greatest power is being able to influence time, orchestrating events perfectly to accomplish their goals. They created Sisko to serve as the Emissary, and planned for him to protect Bajor, restore the orbs damaged by Dukat, and ensure that the Bajorans only entered the Federation when the time was right.

There is still so much we don't know about The Prophets and their wormhole (known as the Celestial Temple). From their fascination with Bajor, to their nonlinear existence, the Prophets are undoubtedly one of Trek's most mysterious aliens from ancient times—and all of time, for that matter. Maybe we'll learn more when Sisko returns from his long stay in their realm.
