1. The Q Continuum

According to John de Lancie's Q, the Q Continuum has always existed. It's possible that they were created at the beginning of time, or may even predate the universe itself. On top of this, we know that time moves differently in their realm, the Q Continuum, so their history may be even longer. To the Q, the big bang itself was nothing more than another sandbox to mess around in.

Having existed for so long, the Q have evolved to possess nearly limitless control over space, time, matter, and energy, though they may not have always been so godlike. The Q who later became known as Quinn described a ‘new era’ of Q history, in which the Continuum was constantly learning and expanding their horizons, so we have to wonder what form their society took in their implied old era.

By the time the Enterprise-D met Q, they fancied themselves the supreme authority of the universe. Their society was strictly ordered and culturally stagnant. Progress in the Continuum didn't continue until the death of Quinn, which was followed by a brutal civil war, the first birth of a new generation, Q Junior, and most recently, Q's revelation that he was dying.

Even after their many visitations, there's still so much we don't know about the Continuum, and even some things they don't know about themselves, but it's seeming like Picard and Dr Crusher's son Jack will learn more when we see him next.
