10 Most Pointless Vikings Characters

There's a weird pattern that emerged when compiling this list: that Vikings is not great a writing new love interests.

Einar, Yidu, Siggy, and now Astrid all share the same flaw of not being particularly interesting. The problem being, as viewers of the show we have seen certain characters flourish with other partners before. This makes any new potential replacement for that character need to excel or at least be unique enough to stand out.

But Vikings goes through lovers at an alarming rate, never allowing anyone other than Lagertha, Torvi, and Aslaug much screen time. This list could just have easily been made up of Bjorn's exes.

Sadly, Astrid falls into this same category, as she starts off as Lagertha's badass lover but is shipped off with King Harald.

Within the next few episodes, Lagertha finds new love in an English battle priest. Astrid and Lagertha eventually reunite briefly, only to have the latter kill Astrid out of mercy when she could just have easily rescued her.

With Astrid gone, her two main interactions between Harald and Lagertha go back to the way they were before she was even introduced.
