Yidu was one of the show's more tragic characters who appealed to Ragnar's curiosities.

First seen as a slave girl, Ragnar took a liking to her as she told him stories about her home and the fact that she was a Princess of China. This was further helped by her offering Ragnar copious amounts of drugs, which he quickly became addicted to.

What started as her giving Ragnar some kind of pain medicine devolved into Ragnar becoming solely dependant on the drug during their travels into France.

For a time, the two became inseparable from each other and started a relationship. Out of all of Ragnar's partners, he and Yidu never really had the same chemistry that Ragnar did with Lagertha or Aslaug. Yidu didn't interact with any of the other cast members outside of Ragnar, either, which made her character very one-dimensional and repetitive.

At some point, she realised the damage the drug had done to Ragnar and refused to give him anymore. Ragnar then took her into the lake and drowned her in a rage.

Yidu was sadly never mentioned again, never mourned by any of the characters, and Ragnar just got over his drug addiction.
