Stargates are some of the most useful tools left by the Ancients, but they aren't solely capable of transporting matter and energy across the cosmos through a network of wormholes. That's certainly their primary use, but they can be used for destructive means, making them effective weapons.

Granted, using a Stargate as a weapon isn't easy, as they are incredibly difficult to destroy — a gate in the Milky Way system once took a direct hit from a meteorite. Still, because they are made of Naquadah, destroying one yields a massive explosion, which is far deadlier than something as pedestrian as a nuke.

When a gate is successfully destroyed via a powerful explosion, its destructive power is equivalent to approximately 13,000 megatons. For comparison, the bomb detonated over Hiroshima was 16 ± 2 kilotons. An exploding stargate would be the equivalent of all the nuclear warheads of the U.S. and Russia exploding at once.

Stargates can be weaponized in other ways, and throughout the series, creative methods have been employed in their use. Samantha Carter once tapped into a black hole with a Stargate to destroy an entire armada of Goa'uld starships by destroying a star, but that's just the tip of the iceberg where weaponized stargates are concerned.
