10 Most Rewatchable TV Shows Of All Time
3. The Thick Of It
Armando Iannucci’s Westminster satire has aged both beautifully and terribly. The latter because, in the years since The Thick Of It last aired, politics (British and overwise) have become only more stupid, with reality far more wild than anything a sitcom writer could ever invent.
But that also speaks to the show’s strength - a hyper intelligent show that can go broad and crazy without ever losing a shred of believability. Anyone who has spent the last several years or more despairing at the state of the world - and that’s probably all of us at this point - will take great comfort from the lunacy on offer in the fictional corridors of power.
The characters are timeless, most notably Peter Capaldi’s raging spin master Malcolm Tucker, and the biting wit on offer has been much imitated but never bettered. Season four’s set piece episode spoofing the Levenson inquiry is particularly rewatchable, blending beautifully acted drama in with the usual surfeit of zingers and profanity.
As a bonus, Iannucci’s US adaptation, Veep, has just as much going for it. Pretty much the last word on political comedy.
