10 Most Shocking Moments Of True Detective Season 2 Episode 3

1. Frank Is On The Edge

True Detective Car On Fire
HBO

Episode 3 closes with Frank returning home to his wife, who playfully suggests that they make up after an early argument. He's in no mood to joke around however, with the events of the past few days weighing on his mind and the gold teeth of his recent victim in hand.

It's clear from his eerily calm assertion that they instead talk tomorrow that Frank is heading towards breaking point. The flashpoint that ignites Season 2 could well be his rapidly shortening fuse, especially given his deadly combination of violent resources (a gang of armed henchmen) and nihilistic world view ("it's all papier-mache").

Episode 4 could well be the turning point of the season, a moment of shocking violence or an earth-shattering revelation that pushes True Detective past the point of no return. Audiences are hoping that such a moment comes along sooner rather than later, and Frank could well be the man to set it in motion.
