1. The Red Wedding
Oh sweet lord The Red Wedding! There was a collective shriek of horror across the world when this season three episode aired, when a perfectly pleasant wedding ceremony turned into the most emotionally devastating ten minutes of television ever broadcast.
It started so well; Robb Stark had made peace with Walder Frey for breaking a marriage pact, his pregnant wife had just named their son after Ned and everyone was partying hard. Then the band started playing The Rains Of Castamere and all hell broke loose.
Throats were slit, arrows rained down on the guests and beloved characters like Talisa, Robb and Catelyn were brutally cut down; the Frays even killed Grey Wind the Direwolf, which is just low. The worst part was Arya watching it all from a distance, when she was so close to being reunited with her family.
It’s a heart-wrenching moment in a show with plenty to choose from, and the reaction videos of fans crying and screaming sum up the response it got.
