10 Most Terrifying Moments In Game Of Thrones
1. The Army Of The Dead Attack The Cave (Season 6, Episode 5)
Bran’s journey beyond the Wall takes him to the Three-Eyed Raven’s cave. Here, he develops his supernatural abilities and learns to be a greenseer.
But in the middle of Season 6, his time with the Three-Eyed Raven comes to an end when the Army of the Dead flood into the cave. Summer, the Children of the Forest, and the Three-Eyed Raven are all taken down as the others flee for their lives. Though Bran and Meera manage to escape, Hodor is also killed by the onslaught of wights.
Any scene with the Army of the Dead is always going to be frightening, but the narrow parameters of the cave make everything more intense than usual. The characters face a living nightmare as the wights advance like a horde of hungry rats, and though Bran remains dormant throughout the attack, Meera’s pleas and Hodor’s final stand heighten the audience’s sense of desperation.
No other moment in the show matches this scene in terms of pure terror. It’s the perfect combination of emotional drama, claustrophobia, and supernatural horror.
