10 Most Underrated TV Shows Of 2020 (So Far)

2. Love, Victor

You'd be forgiven if you weren't aware of what Love, Victor actually was. Yes, the notion of a TV spin-off sequel to the 2018 film Love, Simon was widely publicised, but it feels like the series has just shown up out of nowhere.

That could have something to do with the fact that it was originally supposed to drop on Disney+ - a worldwide service - and a strange last-minute change resulted in it moving to Hulu instead. This was a move that understandably caused controversy because it suggested that its subject matter was too mature for a Disney+ audience (which we now know wasn't the case) and it robbed the show of a wider audience upon its immediate release.

Led by an impassioned performance from the wonderful Michael Cimino, Love, Victor is a truly joyous and heartfelt story of figuring out one's true identity, as the titular character begins to realise that he's attracted to boys and ultimately reaches out to the one person who went through it all before him: Simon Spier. Simon's Nick Robinson reprises his role via voiceover as the show makes a clever attempt to berate the character for his easier coming-out journey, offering a different side to a familiar story - one with much more obstacles.

The impact of Love, Victor is indescribable, and it's important that young LGBTQ+ people have these stories to remind them that they're not alone. It's also a thoroughly enjoyable series worth every moment of your time... so get bingeing, folks!
