6. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Late night TV has always been a mixed bag, but Jimmy Fallon's most recent turn on the Tonight Show must surely epitomise all the bad things about it.

It's important to remember that while yes, The Tonight Show was great before Fallon's ascension, the former SNL cast member himself commanded a great stint on the series during his first year or so involved. Like Stephen Colbert and later John Oliver, segments from Fallon's show would go viral very quickly, with the show's lip-sync battles in particular garnering massive views on both YouTube and Facebook respectively.

And yes, they were genuinely funny. The gags started to change as of 2016 however, and while the show's guests continued to garner laughs, things took a turn for the worse when it booked then Republican nominee for the presidency, Donald Trump, for a slot. Fallon literally tasseled the candidate's hair at a time when he was under fire for leading a campaign steeped with far right elements, and, while the host did later admit that he'd made a mistake, the image of the two embracing is now firmly etched into the narrative surrounding the 2016 Presidential Election.

Best stick to John Oliver, guys.
