10 Problems Nobody Wants To Admit About Peaky Blinders

5. The Pacing Is Off In Most Episodes

PEAKY BLINDERS
BBC

Speaking of all the unnecessary storylines, the plot of Peaky Blinders will move at breakneck speed through a single sequence and then come to a screeching halt in the next scene, and it sucks all the momentum out of the show.

One sequence that comes to mind more recently is Tommy and Polly's visit to an orphanage in series 5.

They deliver a warning to the nuns that run the orphanage as they know they abuse some of the children there, and in a truly badass moment, Polly whips a blade out and points it at a nun and delivers a killer monologue explaining (in the nicest way possible) why the nuns shall be good to the children.

The sequence is awesome, but it has absolutely no impact or bearing in anything else that happens afterwards and instead of being a key addition to the rest of the series, it stands out more as yet another throwaway moment with little to no impact and taking time out of moving the plot forward.

The entirety of series 3 was a mismatch of plot points and pacing issues, so much so the fact that it had one of the biggest and most shocking deaths in the whole show gets passed over when looking back.

One minute the focus is on the Romanovs, the next it's their shadowy allies in British Intelligence, then we are chasing after Italians, and the entire series suffers from a giant headache caused by pace-related dizziness as a result.
