10 Reasons You Should Give Agents Of SHIELD Another Chance
4. Coulson's Stopped Playing By The Rules
In the first half of the season Agent Coulson stuck to S.H.I.E.L.D. protocol near enough most of the time, only bending the rules on special occasions when he thought there was no other choice. As we all know, stories about people who follow rules aren't as interesting as those about folks who break 'em. Skye's the one member of the team who consistently breaks the rules, but she's usually brought back down to earth by the rest of the cast, with her incapacitating Agent Sitwell at the Hub being probably the most outrageous abuse of the pecking order she's guilty of. Well, now Coulson and the rest of the team have caught up, and Phil's ramping things up a notch. Determined to find out the truth of his resurrection, he had the team break into a restricted-access bunker and kill the two men guarding it, resulting in the whole compound coming down around their ears. (When are they going to get called up on that, by the way? I'd imagine Hand, Nick Fury or Maria Hill would like to have some stern words with Coulson when they find out...) Now Coulson's not just the affable company man he started out life as in Iron Man. He's got his own mission that doesn't necessarily align with what S.H.I.E.L.D. wants, and that means there's gonna be conflict. And conflict, as we know, is never a bad thing.
