10 Reasons You Should Give Agents Of SHIELD Another Chance
5. The Winter Soldier Will Have Insane Consequences
Captain America: The Winter Soldier changes everything for S.H.I.E.L.D., and if the MCU is truly a shared universe then Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be completely different and way more complex after the events of that movie. Definite spoilers ahead... Let's start with the small stuff first: No more Sitwell! The loveable if inscrutable bald fella turned out to have been an agent of HYDRA mid-way through The Winter Soldier and ended up being killed off by the title character, breaking the hearts of the ten or so fans who actually knew his name. Of course, that didn't stop him from appearing in this week's episode of AoS two weeks after the film opened in the UK but that's easily explained by the MCU timeline placing the events of the series between Avengers and The Winter Soldier, which reportedly takes place around two years after the Battle of New York. Perhaps we'll see Coulson simultaneously mourning his friend and cursing the fact that he never knew of his treachery. Speaking of HYDRA, there's the small matter that S.H.I.E.L.D. had been infiltrated by its agents from its creation and as a result is rotten to the core. With it being disbanded by Fury who goes into hiding at the end of the film what will that mean for Coulson, his team and all the other agents around the world? It would seem cheap to keep season 2 pre-Winter Soldier as Marvelites have come to expect a certain degree of continuity and authenticity between properties, so we might see Coulson's team being part of a new organisation or flying solo come next autumn (if the show's renewed, that is), but the safer bet is likely on S.H.I.E.L.D. remaining intact in some form or other so that ABC don't have to change the series' title...
