10 Reasons Ricky Gervais Is A God-Like Genius

5. He Doesn't Care What You Think

Doesnt Care Does everyone love Ricky Gervais? No. Of course not. If everyone always liked the same things in life, then there would be no conflict. And without conflict, there would be no comedy (among many other things€). There are even those out there who hate Gervais with a passion beyond mere words. And to those people, Ricky Gervais says€nothing. He doesn't care if you like him or not. He made several very funny jokes at the Golden Globes and people later got pissy about what he said. His response? Whatever. He won't host it again. When great comedians--hell, great artists--start to lose their edge, their sheen, their relevance, it's usually because they've begun to kowtow to the public at large, giving them what he or she thinks they want. That is a mistake that Ricky Gervais doesn't make. He creates what he wants to create and if you enjoy it, then it all works out. If you don't, he'll finish what he's doing, smile at it anyway, and then begin something new.
