9. The Wonder And Terror Of A Child
Doctor Who is a family show. While some consider it aimed at children it is in actuality a story that works on many levels. The current iteration of the program is not afraid to comment upon the reality of existence as harsh and unfair while filled with beauty and wonder. Children are not condescended to in Doctor Who. Young does not equate with stupid. Most kids learn quite early what life is really like. The show celebrates a child-like sense of wonder while refusing to pander. Being small doesnt mean you dont experience a full range of emotions and the creative force behind the show acknowledges that. The Doctors true enemies are the same as our own - cynicism and apathy. The show remains successful because we recognize that the Doctor represents a mindset that our current society derides. He gives us permission to dream and to hope.
