It would have been a false and unnecessary tactic to distinguish Better Call Saul from Breaking Bad by giving it a different look - it's the content that needs to be new, not the style. Stop thinking in terms of spin-offs, prequels or sequels and instead use the comparison of The Marvel Universe - the films are all interlinked and the crossovers are fan pleasers as well as narrative aids, but each one is capable of standing alone. Better Call Saul is not an expensive Breaking Bad Extra, or a way of appeasing Waltheads by padding out his story. For now this is Jimmy's story, then it will become Saul's.
