10 Recent Horror TV Shows That Had No Right To Be This Good
8. Love, Death And Robots
This animated anthology covers many genres, and while horror is not its focal point, it still excels in creating stories that makes full use of the frightful genre. The show is not as thematically dense as some of its counterparts (in no small part due to its short episodes), but it does not falter when it comes to its imaginative concepts, especially when it dips into the world of horror.
Episodes such as Bad Travelling, The Witness, The Swarm and especially Jibaro and Beyond the Aquila Rift are vastly different from each other, but they share common themes such as the threat of the unknown (and its unexpected allure in the case of Jibaro), mortality or the lack thereof, and liberation/subjugation.
These themes are in turn used to chilling effect through intense gory sequences, striking and frightening imagery and even unnerving sound design to showcase how out of their depth some characters are, the absurdity of their situations and the sheer, terrifying nature of the unknown.
