9. Snowpiercer (2022)
We all love a bit of sci-fi don’t we? And even though the world we live in is an absolute shambles, we for some reason also love dystopian, apocalyptic sci-fi in particular! Maybe in a weird way it’s nice to look at those worlds and go, “hey, at least we don’t have it that bad!”
The Snowpiercer world is a super interesting one for sure, based off Bong Joon-Ho’s 2013 film which is in turn based off a graphic novel. It’s set in a world where the nuclear winter has descended, and the only known survivors are those on The Snowpiercer, a perpetually moving train that goes around and around the globe.
On board are those that paid for their tickets and those that didn’t, the former living in pampered luxury whilst the latter exist in squalor. Daveed Diggs stars in the lead role as a former detective with a mission for equality, and as the battle unfolds, those on the train must deal not only with the threats of the frozen outdoors, but the unjust indoors too.
It’s a great universe occupied by a great cast, and with three seasons currently out (the most recent of which being 2022) it is perfect for a bit of low-attention binge-watching.
