10 Ridiculous Sitcoms You Won't Believe Ever Got Made

9. (The Last Few Seasons Of) Family Matters (ABC, 1989 €“ 1997/CBS, 1997 €“ 1998)

CastWhat€™s It About? Originally a sitcom about an ordinary African-American family, Family Matters eventually devolved to centre on genius character Steve Urkel, who had become the show€™s most popular character over the time it was on air. Why Is It So Ridiculous? It€™s not the alternate character focus that really did this one in. It€™s the exaggeration of Steve€™s scientific ability to the point that he can literally do anything which led to absolutely ridiculous episodes like him travelling back in time and joining a crew of pirates, him building a teleporter, and transforming himself into a clone of Bruce Lee. The introduction of so many sci-fi elements into a completely normal suburban setting is jarring and completely stupid. Especially since it adopts the approach that I call €œscience is magic€ where a genius character is able to do practically anything regardless of how impossible it may be. What Happened To It? It moved to CBS for its final season and was cancelled after nine years and two hundred and fifteen episodes.
