Because of computer animation and a relatively small production team, South Park episodes are made in just six days. To their advantage, Matt Stone and Trey Parker are able to create stories and satire about current events in such a quick time which has helped their cartoon sitcom remain relevant and up to date. Some examples include the episode “Trapper Keeper” where they parodied the scandal of the 2000 Presidential election only one week afterwards and ‘It’s Christmas in Canada” which acknowledged the capture of Saddam Hussein just four days after it happened.

The fast making of content is also extremely handy when they need to make a drastic change to an episode before it’s too late, such as in Season 20’s “Oh, Jeez”. It was first titled “The Very First Gentleman” and was produced under the assumption Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 US Presidential Election. Parker and Stone played out a similar gambling move for their episodes “South Park: About Last Night” and “South Park: Obama Wins!”, both of which presumed Obama would succeed in his election and re-election.

However, the directing duo weren’t as lucky this time because of Donald Trump’s unexpected win so the episode ended up being rearranged at the last minute to reflect the upset reaction towards his victory.
