5. Shall We Die Together?

Captain Picard is back again on this list, facing the Romulans rather than the Klingons this time. Thanks to the information provided by Admiral Jarok, the Enterprise finds itself in the middle of the Neutral Zone, investigating an alleged staging ground for a Romulan assault into Federation space. Unfortunately for the Enterprise, the whole set-up was a trap.

Two Romulan Warbirds, both far larger than the Galaxy-class Enterprise-D, decloak in front of them and an insanely smug Commander Tomalok hails them. He gloats over his victory, citing the Enterprise's aggressive entry into the Neutral Zone as an act of war. He tells them that he intends to bring the broken hull of the ship back to Romulus to show it off in the capital.

Amazingly, Picard keeps his cool for the entire conversation. He even offers an apology, which is flatly rejected. Picard does however refuse to surrender. Tomalok taunts him, saying he will need to see more than idle threats before he is intimidated. Picard nods and three Klingon Birds-of-Prey decloak, flanking the two Romulan ships.

Tomalok's expression turns sour, snapping that the Enterprise would still not survive their assault. Picard responds:

And you will not survive ours. Shall we die together?

Beaten, Tomalok slinks away.
