10 Star Trek Characters You Totally Forgot Existed

9. Kes

Star Trek
Paramount

A lifespan of nine years that would allow Voyager to explore an entire lifetime across its seasons.

Kes the Ocampa was a truly unique alien but her time on the ship was even shorter than she might have expected, facing the axe in favour of Seven of Nine.

Forgettable? Once Jeri Ryan had stamped a very clear presence on the show from the beginning of season four, the answer has to be a resounding yes. Ryan's arrival changed the dynamic of the show with a visible leading trio combining her Borg character, Janeway, and the Doctor centre stage.

Kes' return to the show for a solo story, Fury, only sought to remind viewers that they had forgotten Neelix's ex a long time ago and just how little impact the character had made on the series. While Kes had a couple of standout moments, most notably season three's Warlord and Before and After, it all came too late to save her.

Never offered enough screentime as a main actor or given enough quality material, Kes was destined for the background of the show from very early on.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
