10 Stargate SG-1 Fates Worse Than Death
1. Reliving Your Worst Day Forever
Imagine the worst day you've ever had. However horrific it may have been, some solace can at least be taken in the fact that it is over. What if this day would end though, and you would wake up to find it happening all over again?
Such is the fate which befalls SG-1 when arriving in the beautiful gardens of planet P7J-989. Finding the inhabitants sleeping in bizarre biomechanic chairs, the team are ensnared by this strange technology and thrown into their own individual nightmares.
At the behest of 'The Keeper', an AI running a simulated reality for the populace, the team are forced to relive failures and tragedy in vain efforts to try different options and see if they can change the past. The Keeper explains that the people of the planet were placed into this virtual world 1000 years ago following a global catastrophe, and he needs their experiences as fresh entertainment for his prisoners. He refuses to release the natives into the restored planet in case they destroy it again, and is perfectly ready to imprison SG-1 for another 1000 years to maintain the lie.
Whilst they are only subjected to this ordeal for a brief time, the unlucky people of P7J-989 are at The Keeper's mercy for a full 1,000 years, slowly driven mad by their isolation. Succinctly put by Daniel; when trapped for so much time with only 20 movies, what wouldn't you give for four more?
