2. Star Of The Backstage (S33 E1)
It's not very often that anyone will create an episode of any TV show and hope for a backlash of anger from the fans. There are often tough to take moments that may not be what people expect or want, but to actively hope for angry fans is something very rare.
When the season 33 opener was released, executive producer Matt Selman reportedly hoped for a backlash from fans in the same way 'Do Pizza Bots Dream of Electric Guitars' in the previous season, and his wish came true.
Whereas season 32 rewrote Marge and Homer's backstory to fit in the '90s, just one year later it was rewrote yet again in 'Star of the Backstage'. Marge produced a recreation of her high school play, Y2K: The Millennium Bug, once again moving her and Homer's teen years up another decade.
Selman defended these retcons as writing something new with the show's longevity only growing, but fans still moaned all the same. The backlash may not have been quite so rough if it would have been a strong episode outside of this aspect, but musical episodes are rarely a good idea, and at 4.4, there is only episode rated lower on IMDb...
