10 Things Comic Fans Miss About Old DC Animation

3. Voice Acting Was Spot On

If there's anyone we can thank for Warner's immaculate voice casts, it's Andrea Romano. Hired as a casting director for the company at the beginning of the 90s, Romano has gone onto cast some of DC's most iconic characters with now definitive performances, most notably with Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as The Joker. From then on Romano has since become a staple of WB's animated features, even starring in some of the titles she helped to cast. Though a fan of recurring castings the voice director has never been one to shy away from mixing up the formula, as demonstrated by her variation of style when casting actors in roles already traversed rather famously by others. It's hard to argue against the fact that her influence has been positive, as these casts have proven their worth time and time again. Indeed, it shouldn't really come as a surprise to hear that apart from Assault on Arkham, Gods and Monsters and Batman vs Robin, Romano has been largely absent from DC's latest comic book adaptations. Without being too harsh on the pseudo-52 casting line up, I really don't think people will be rushing to cite the performances given so far as being definitive in any sense of the word.
