10 Things That Every Doctor Who Fan Is Waiting For

4. K-9 Comeback

K-9 is one of the Doctor's most adored allies and as such you'd struggle to find a fan who wouldn't jump at the chance to be reunited with him once more. In fact, it's long overdue. First introduced in 1977's The Invisible Enemy, this loveable mechanical mutt quickly established himself as a formidable force to be reckoned with as he stepped - or rolled, to be more precise - aboard the TARDIS to aid the titular Time Lord n his ongoing timey-wimey escapades. Originally, however, and much like his real life alter ego Tom Baker, the Fourth Doctor wasn't overly keen on the concept of defending the Universe alongside a tin dog but he was soon eating his words when K-9 affirmed his presence as one of the most loyal and resourceful companions you could ever wish for. As the years have gone by, though, K-9 has become somewhat of a forgotten figure within the Doctor Who mythology. He returned with Sarah Jane Smith for Series 2's School Reunion in 2006 but only made fleeting appearances in her subsequent spin off, The Sarah Jane Adventures, owing to the fact that the BBC were caught up amidst an ongoing licensing dispute. Narratively speaking, though, he was orbiting a black hole to stop it from consuming planet Earth, which sounds much more exciting. Suffice to say, it's high time the producers dusted off K-9 and restored him to his former glory. The Twelfth Doctor's era is arguably the best opportunity yet seeing as Peter Capaldi's leading performance is the one most heavily likened to his Classic Series predecessors. With the return of Gallifrey on the cards, the Doctor's going to need all the support he can get and K-9 has already proven that a dog really is a man's best friend. Affirmative!
