10 Things The Arrowverse Wishes It Could've Done Differently
5. Losing Its Simplicity (Arrow)
One of Arrow's greatest strengths in its earlier seasons was its simplicity. Arrow is a DC show and thus a superhero show but Arrow's early seasons felt gritty and grounded. It was refreshing and set Arrow apart from anything else.
No member of the original Team Arrow had any enhanced powers. Oliver Queen had his quiver; John Diggle had his strength and agility; Felicity had her technical capabilities. Even the bunker was basic. Oliver Queen has always been a billionaire but he didn't throw his money into the team straight away. The bunker was little more than a dingy basement with a couple of computers - plus that famous salmon ladder. It set Arrow's tone.
Flash forward to now, and Team Arrow is as high-tech as ever. Gone is the dingy basement in favour of an enhanced headquarters that can only be accessed by a secret elevator in City Hall. Things started to change when Arrow introduced Ray Palmer who became the superhero, Atom. It was one of the first times Arrow started to introduce super-powered characters.
Unfortunately, this hasn't been for the better as Arrow has rapidly lost the simplicity that so many of us loved in the first place. Arrow crosses over with The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow so naturally, more enhanced elements were inevitably going to end up in the show but it should be limited to crossovers.
Arrow has always shined when it draws back to its roots. It's doubtful we're going to see any drastic changes in Arrow's short final season but we can hope.
