10 Things The Arrowverse Wishes It Could've Done Differently
4. Too Many Characters (Legends Of Tomorrow)
Legends of Tomorrow is an ensemble show so the vast number of core characters shouldn't be a surprise, but that doesn't mean it always works. It was always going to be a risky move taking a group of B-List characters and giving them their own show. It could be a contributing factor as to why Legends is the Arrowverse's lowest-rated show - the group can feel a little soulless.
Season one established nine core characters: Atom, Rip Hunter, Firestorm (x2), White Canary, Hawkgirl, Hawkman, Heat Wave, and Captain Cold. In a show like Legends with no central protagonist, it's difficult for writers to split our time evenly amongst each character. There isn't enough time in a single weekly episode to develop a storyline for everyone in addition to advancing the central plot.
Each character gets to be the focus every now and then - but Legends is no Lost. It isn't THAT dedicated to developing each character. It can make Legends a hard show to connect with - although now going into its fifth season, it must be doing something right.
Half of the original Legends team is gone and has since been replaced with a whole new set of characters. Interchangeability seems to be in Legends of Tomorrow's DNA. If you want some light-hearted superhero fun, it's definitely the show to watch. However, you're unlikely to attach to the characters the same way you might invest yourself in the lives of Oliver Queen, Barry Allen, and Kara Zor-El.
