10 Things To Expect From Game Of Thrones: House Of The Dragon
8. A Focus On New Houses
While the original series focused on the rivalries between the Starks, Lannisters, and the Baratheons, House of the Dragon will introduce audiences to several new houses – House Hightower, House Strong, and House Velaryon.
While not featured in the teaser trailer, several members of House Strong have been cast for the series – Master of Laws Lyonel Strong and his children Larys Strong and Harwin “Breakbones” Strong (best known for being the paramour and rumored father of Princess Rhaenyra’s children). The Strongs are best known for ruling Harrenhal, a location best known in original Game of Thrones series as the place where Arya Stark, Hot Pie, and Gendry were taken captive in the second season.
Two key members of House Hightower have been cast for the show – the Hand of the King Otto Hightower, whose pin is seen in the teaser trailer, and his daughter and wife to King Viserys, Alicent, seen wielding a dagger in the teaser trailer. Hailing from Oldtown (best known as the location where Sam studied to become a Maester at the Citadel), House Hightower, despite being sworn to the Tyrells, are one of the oldest and most powerful houses in Westeros.
House of the Dragon will also introduce House Velaryon, a house with close ties to House Targaryen. The Velaryon family is shown making a grand entrance in the teaser trailer as the Sea Snake Corlys Velaryon is flanked by his wife Rhaenys Targaryen, brother Vaemond, and children Laena and Laenor. Like the Targaryens, the Velaryons are of Valyrian origin, but rule the seas instead of the skies, providing the royal fleet and having many of its members serve as the Masters of Ships.
