The Targaryen civil war lasted from the years 129 – 131 A.C. in Fire and Blood’s fictional timeline, However, the question of succession that led to the war started many years before the war broke out and Fire and Blood provides a detailed historical account of three decades of conflict leading up to the war itself. Like the book, House of the Dragon is set to adapt this sprawling narrative.

The two actors each have been cast to play the roles of Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey and Olivia Cooke), Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock and Emma D’Arcy), and Laenor Velaryon (Theo Nate and Jon Macmillan). Each character will be portrayed at two key stages in their lives – as a youth and as a more seasoned adult. Meaning that multiple periods of time will be explored in-depth within the series.

This exploration of multiple time periods within the series will give proper time to explore the characters and their motivations. The decades-long scope of the story and will also help distinguish the series from its predecessor, which focused on a single time-period with some flashbacks.
