10 Things We Want From Netflix's Transformers: War For Cybertron
6. Explain Why Alt-Modes Exist
In the original cartoon and comic book, the Transformers' alternate modes were a way for them to blend into the peoples of the planets they visit. When they landed on Earth their computer, racistly assuming that our vehicles were the dominant species because they were big and metallic, changed their bodies so that they could disguise themselves as those vehicles.
While their alt-modes were actually one of the reasons for the war in IDW's G1 continuity (people were given jobs based on what they turned into, and were unable to go against that vocation) it's very rare that we see any reason for these gigantic robots to change form. In fact, the G1 cartoon that was notorious for being a glorified toy advert provided one of the clearest explanations by having Cybertronians originally built as a slave race whose alternate forms were part of their function.
While the show probably won't be any worse off if we don't know for sure why Cybertronians can transform their bodies into other forms, or just where those transformation cogs come from, it's something I'm hoping makes an appearance somewhere, even if Adaptus is just mentioned in passing.
