10 Things We Want To See On The X-Files: Albuquerque
2. AD Doggett
Robert Patrick was given the cold shoulder by the X-Files fanbase in the early 2000s, but his work has aged like a fine wine.
While he was done dirty by fans in the series' final two seasons, John Doggett, brought in initially to hunt for a missing Fox Mulder (necessitated by David Duchovny's part-time status from Season 8 onward), was perhaps the strongest character on the show at that point. Patrick, as Doggett, brought with him acting chops that Duchovny himself could rarely match. Standout episodes like season eight's Invocation and in particular season nine's John Doe had Patrick in award territory — in fact, he was nominated at the Saturn Awards for both seasons, winning Best Actor in 2001.
Then FOX dumped the show amidst falling ratings and a divided fanbase, with those who watched the show mainly for the Mulder and Scully relationship spewing vitriol on X-Files forums across the web (Agent Dogbert and Dogbreath were among the names hurled Doggett's way).
It was rather unfortunate, especially as Patrick had fully committed to the show, envisioning several more seasons. When seasons 10 and 11 were released in 2016 and 2018, Patrick was nowhere to be found. He was gainfully employed by CBS on Scorpion and saw no reason to return.
While you probably won't get Patrick back, Doggett would be worth including in a supporting role in The X-Files: Albuquerque. The hard-nosed former beat cop would make a great Assistant Director, and an excellent straight man in the comedy-inclined animated series.
