10 Things You Didn't Know About Charlie Cox

7. Cox Hit The Gym For Months On End To Get As Muscular As Matt Murdock

Due to the fact he lives in the Hell's Kitchen neighbourhood of New York City, he was trained by his boxer father Jack when he grew up and his nickname is "the Man Without Fear", having a non-muscly Daredevil just wouldn't have worked. This was something Cox was fully aware of, so he underwent a punishing gym regime for several months in order to reduce his (already pretty low levels of) body fat and to increase his muscularity. In the comics, Daredevil is an excellent athlete, a master acrobat and is well over six-feet tall - while Cox is only 5ft 10ins. When explaining how he got into Matt Murdock-worthy shape, Cox said:
"The way he's drawn, he's taller than I am and heavier, more muscular, so I had to do a lot of gym work to even get in the ballpark, but what a thrill - it's amazing what life can throw at you."
Interestingly though, Cox insists his Daredevil character will not be the "man without fear" that is portrayed in Marvel's comics - believing that "someone who does not have fear - literally does not experience fear - is not that interesting".
