4. The Female Lead Still Isn't Officially Cast
Despite the casting of both Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn as two of the apparently four main characters, no one else has been officially cast since. Taylor Kitsch has been named dropped for months and still has yet to be confirmed. And then there is the female lead, which has been rife with rumors for a long time. Even though production is supposedly starting soon, nothing has been announced. However, if the most recent rumors are to be believed, it looks like the next season could be a bit of a Wedding Crashers reunion. A month back Rachel McAdams had been "unofficially" confirmed to be cast as the female lead. News broke that she was frontrunner for the role after months of speculation and rumors involving the likes of the aforementioned Jessica Chastain and Elizabeth Moss. Actresses that were actually considered for the part apparently included Jessica Biel and Malin Akerman. Again it must be stressed that her casting hasn't officially been announced by HBO like Farrell's or Vaughn's, so things could change. But if the news is true, what character will she be playing? One of the main protagonists is Ani Bezzerides, and all we know about the character is that she is a no-nonsense sheriff from Monterey, who has gambling and drinking problems as a result of her troubled upbringing. Yeah, sounds like she will fit right in with the world of True Detective. And speaking of Monterey...
