10 Times Doctor Who Was More Like Fifty Shades Of Grey

7. The Nestene Bondage Sofa

When you're an alien life form that can animate plastic, the potential for sex play is obvious. Whether creating a plastic facsimile or bringing your favourite waxwork lovely to life (or a bride should your tastes lean that way), the Nestenes are a boon for the sexually adventurous. Barry Letts and Robert Holmes may have been criticised for making Terror of the Autons too scary but it could have been far worse. Killer condoms? As Rose mused, breast implants?

It can be seen that the Nestenes are bondage fans, especially when allied with the Master who, with his black gloves and tendency to want to dominate others ("You will obey me!") is an obvious S&M candidate. Two of their creations in Terror of the Autons are pure 50 Shades. First there is the very useful phone cord that ties itself around you. Think of the time a newbie would save trying to work out how to go about things? Just command your cord to tie your partner up! Even better is the Bondage Sofa, which manages to glue the submissive down to its rather nasty shiny plastic seat. Why can't a participant feel the thrill of restraint while still being comfortably sat on the sofa, perhaps watching the telly?

Instead of trying to take over the world, why didn't the Nestene just make a deal with Ann Summers instead? They could also have provided those stores with an endless supply of comely mannequins.
