10 Times Lazy Writing Ruined Netflix's You Season 2
6. The Handcuffs
At the beginning of Fear and Loathing in Beverly Hills, Will has kidnapped Delilah and imprisoned her in his oh-so-useful glass cage. This is after she stumbles across the cage which is full of evidence of Joe’s past discrepancies.
Luckily for Delilah, Joe has decided that he’s a good person now and doesn’t want to murder her. (Spoiler- this doesn’t make much of a difference to the outcome.) However, Joe’s not quite good enough to apologise, let her go and accept the consequences of his actions.
Instead, he presents a pair of hi-tech handcuffs, which can be set to release on a timer. He lets her know that once the timer is set, it can’t be overridden, sets it for 16 hours and handcuffs her to a table. This should buy him enough time to leave town; provided he doesn’t get kidnapped and drugged with a high dose of LSD in a fancy hotel.
The problem with this whole scenario is that this is literally the only situation that could possibly necessitate such a convoluted pair of handcuffs. Why else would they exist? Why were they readily available? Who are they marketed to, outside of kidnappers who’ve had a change of heart?
There’s a good 85% chance that Joe found these through a Wish ad on Facebook.
