10 TV Cancellations We're Still Not Over
1. Freaks And Geeks
The show that launched the careers of Linda Cardellini, Jason Segel, James Franco, Seth Rogen and Martin Starr, Freaks and Geeks aired for one season in 1999. Produced and written by Judd Apatow, the show detailed the high school life of Lindsay Weir (Cardellini) as she befriends a gang of slackers.
Funny, touching, relatable and brilliantly acted, Freaks and Geeks showed promise as the next big thing on television, but found itself on the chopping block after the network had trouble with scheduling. Due to poor time slots which found it overshadowed by Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, Freaks and Geeks never hit the right audience and was cancelled after just twelve episodes.
To add insult to injury, it was also announced that the writers and NBC had different visions for what the show would be. NBC apparently didn't understand the appeal of doing a show about teens in high school, and all of these issues culminated in it being cast aside.
After its cancellation, a fan campaign kicked off which eventually forced NBC to release the remaining episodes and end the season as planned. After that, Freaks and Geeks was left to pick up a vast cult following, and these days it often makes its way on to lists detailing the greatest shows of all time.
Not bad for a show that didn't get a chance to live its full potential.
