10 TV Moments We Waited Years To See (That Didn't Live Up To Expectations)

5. Dexter Goes Down - Dexter

Dexter's earlier seasons were marked by strong critical acclaim and a feverishly loyal fanbase well aware that serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) would one day have to get what was coming to him.

There only ever seemed to be two plausible options for the end of Dexter's story - he'd either die or more likely get arrested for his crimes - but the manner in which Dexter's downfall was achieved ultimately turned out to be crushingly disappointing.

While Dexter certainly goes through a lot in the show's final season - namely the death of his sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) and deciding to leave his son Harrison in the care of serial killer Hannah McKay (Yvonne Strahovski) - the show sadly lacked the courage to commit to a proper punishment for Dex's acts throughout the show.

Instead, Dexter fakes his death by sailing into a storm, after which he resurfaces in Oregon under a new identity and working as a lumberjack, effectively getting away with eight seasons of murder.

The series finale was near-universally despised by fans, with even Michael C. Hall himself implying he wasn't too fond of it.
