10 TV Scenes You Didn't Realise Were Tricking You
4. Blue Meth Is Impossible, But Blue Candy Isn't - Breaking Bad
While it did make for a rather compelling visual over the course of Vince Gilligan's small screen study of Bryan Cranston's Walter White gradually Breaking Bad, the show's purest form of methamphetamine crafted by Heisenberg and Jesse Pinkman wouldn't have actually ended up sporting its distinct blue colour in real-life.
That's because, while blue meth does actually exist in the real-world, and often goes by the name of "Smurf Dope", the purest forms of the drug are known to be either colourless or white.
But that definitely wouldn't have made for as visually satisfying or identifiable a product over the course of the ever-twisting tale of a dying chemistry teacher turning to a life of crime, so Gilligan and the gang went blue for their "Blue Sky" 99.1% pure crystal.
And rather than stock a boatload of the real thing for the many scenes showing off Heisenberg and Pinkman's goods in Breaking Bad or simply dying many a crystal blue, the showrunners opted to rely on blue rock candy.
This means that whenever you see the characters smoking the substance in the series, they're actually breathing in the sugar candy crafted by The Candy Lady store in Albuquerque before eventually exhaling the sweet substitute off-camera.
