10 TV Seasons That Are Practically Flawless
6. The Haunting Of Hill House
Before the spiritual sequel of Bly Manor, which proved to be an incoherent mess underwhelming in several aspects, Mike Flanagan shocked us all with The Haunting of Hill House. TV horror was dropping off the map, it either failed to be scary or wasn't even trying to be scary. So, when Hill House started streaming on Netflix, it was a pleasant surprise to find not only a terrifying horror show but one with a fantastic narrative and direction as well.
Set in two distinct time periods, the story follows the Crain family both in their adulthood and in their childhood being raised at the titular Hill House. The story is surprisingly macabre and deals with questions of mental health and trauma maturely that elevate the show beyond just being a scare fest.
Flanagan directs all 10 episodes incredibly well, with a highlight being an episode that is designed to look like one long uninterrupted shot which allows for some creative scares. The show is packed with strong twists and reveals and the dedication to the character arcs is commendable. TV horror has never been this good before and likely won't again for a long time.
