10 TV Seasons That Are Practically Flawless
3. The Wire: Season Four
The Wire famously reinvented itself with each season focusing on a different aspect of Baltimore society that showrunner David Simon wanted to shine a light on. Season Four was no different as it is centred around the impoverished youth and the struggling public school system.
This allowed for a crop of four unknown child actors to take on the responsibility of being the show's leads filling the void left by Stringer, Avon and an incredibly reduced McNulty. Luckily they're all fantastic and carry the show through its best season which is no small feat considering the high calibre of each of The Wire's five seasons.
The show prides itself on its realism and Season Four's brutally honest and real moments land incredibly well. The respect paid to all the children by giving them legitimate flaws and unique characterisation allows the season to have some of the greatest child characters of all time.
The Wire's mandate can often be attributed to raising awareness of social issues that are ignored by those that aren't involved in them. The plight of kids leading difficult lives is a universal message that is delivered with sensitivity and sincerity.
